How to buy slides.

Start or add to your own collection.

Viewing pictures of thin sections in books or on the internet is no where near as good as owning your own slide collection, and viewing through a polarising microscope.
Building up a collection of slides can be expensive. In comparison with insect and plant slides, thin section rock slides seem expensive. However each slide takes over an hour to make, so in comparison to, for example, having your car repaired, they are good value.

Slides can be bought from Geosec Slides in two ways.

1. Geosec.biz internet shop.

As from June 2013 Geosec has it’s own dedicated internet outlet. Run through Auctiva Commerce, this is now the main way Geosec will sell slides. They are immediately available, not auctions. This is replacing the ‘Buy it now’ sales previously offered on ebay. The intention is to keep a stock of 20 slides available for immediate purchase. There will also be a ‘Sold’ category, items not for immediate sale (until another is manufactured), but still visible for information purposes.

Click on Geosec.biz or any of the slides in the box.

All slides from Geosec.biz are postage free worldwide

(Some slides may be temporarily out of stock)

Credit / Debit cards and Paypal accepted.

You will be asked to pay for the item immediatly, via paypal, which again you do not have to register with in order to use, you will be asked for your credit card details in a manner familiar to anyone who has bought a product online. (this information is correct when written, ebay policy may change)

Slides from your own samples

I am currently able to offer to make thin section slides from your own rock or fossil samples.

If the rock sample is;

1. interesting, unusual, something I haven’t got (please ask)
2. Or from a well known location (if collecting permitted)
3. and big enough

then I will be willing to make and send one slide from each sample supplied FREE. The remaining material would be made into slides for sale to offset the cost.

If you are interested in the latter, please contact me first with details of what you intend to send.

Please see the article on the ‘MAKING’ page of this site for guidance on what to send

Slides for sale

Slides can be bought from Geosec Slides ebay shop. The link at the top right of each page will take you to the shop page.

This may change shortly. From July 2013 an alternative source will be available. Please check back for details.

Other forms of marketing are being worked on, but demand for the slides rather reduces the time available to develop these.

You will be asked to pay for the item immediatly, via paypal, which again you do not have to register with in order to use, you will be asked for your credit card details in a manner familiar to anyone who has bought a product online.

Postage, deliveries, and Achnaha

The postal services to and from Achnaha are good, but more restricted than in less remote areas.

Outgoing post has to be sent by 11.00 am as that is the last post of the day. This means that parcels have to be packed, and delivered to the post office by 10.30 to be on the safe side. This in turn means that any item that you would like delivering promptly need to be paid for by 9.00am at the latest.

I do not receive post untill about 4.00pm, this means that sending cheques for items will delay dispatch of the item by at least 24 hours, compared with somewhere whose post arrives in time for dispatch the same day.

Having said all that, most items arrive as quickly from Achnaha as from elsewhere in the UK.
